The myth behind this song
From the frozen peaks of Thrace, the North Wind descends. No prayer can turn his wrath. Boreas has arrived.
Experience the Greek god Boreas through epic symphonic folk metal - modern instruments mimicking ancient Greek textures. High-gain guitars recreate the piercing nasal wail of the Aulos (double-reed pipes), plucked acoustic guitar captures the fluid playing style of the Lyra, and Phrygian scales evoke Eastern Mediterranean atmosphere. This is Greek mythology meeting winter metal fury.
The Legend of Boreas:
In Greek mythology, Boreas is the violent god of the North Wind, one of the four Anemoi (wind gods). Purple-winged and fierce, he brings winter's fury from Thrace to the Mediterranean world.
Unlike Nordic cultures that embrace winter, ancient Greeks saw winter as an invasion from the north - cold, destructive, unwelcome. Boreas personifies this violence. He freezes seas, destroys ships, kills crops, and brings bitter suffering.
His most famous act: abducting the Athenian princess Oreithyia while she danced by a river, carrying her away to make her his bride. This wasn't courtship - it was conquest. Boreas takes what he wants with the same violence he brings to winter itself.
He's not evil, not judging, not testing mortals. He simply IS - pure elemental force, the howling northern wind made flesh, winter as invasion and attack.
