The legend behind this song

The Last Great Lords Leave. The Goddess Remains.

"The Flight" is the sixth chapter of "The Eternal Vigil" — and the most devastating yet.

In September 1607, Hugh O'Neill and Rory O'Donnell — the last great Gaelic earls of Ireland — sailed from Lough Swilly into permanent exile. No battle was fought. No last stand was made. The old Gaelic order simply walked onto ships and disappeared into the fog. They would die in Rome and Spain, never to return.

The Morrígan has watched ten thousand warriors fall. She has chosen the slain on a hundred battlefields. She has cursed invaders and mourned the silencing of a language. But she has never watched a people simply leave.

This is her most vulnerable moment in the entire saga.

Each wound cuts deeper. This one leaves her alone on an empty shore.

Historical Context: The Flight of the Earls on September 14, 1607 marked the end of Gaelic Ireland. Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone, and Rory O'Donnell, Earl of Tyrconnell, along with nearly 100 chieftains and their families, sailed from Lough Swilly in County Donegal. They had planned to seek military support in Europe but never returned. Their departure left Ulster leaderless and opened the way for the Plantation of Ulster — the systematic colonization that would reshape Ireland forever.

"I am the goddess of the lost. And I have never been more alone." — Which line moved you most? The saga continues...
