The myth behind this song

Thirteen nights. Thirteen trolls. One terrifying mother. The Yule Lads are coming.

Experience the epic Icelandic legend of Grýla and her thirteen sons - the Yule Lads who descend from the mountains one by one during the thirteen nights before Christmas. This is symphonic folk metal storytelling: distorted guitars meet orchestral layers, theatrical vocals, and Iceland's darkest Christmas tradition brought to driving rock life.

The Legend of Grýla & The Yule Lads:

In Icelandic folklore, Christmas is terrifying. High in the mountains lives Grýla - an ancient giantess with fifteen tails who collects naughty children in her leather sack and cooks them. Her thirteen troll sons, the Jólasveinar (Yule Lads), descend one per night starting thirteen nights before Christmas.

The Thirteen Yule Lads: 1. Stekkjarstaur - Harasses sheep 2. Giljagaur - Steals milk from gullies 3. Stúfur - Steals pans for crusts 4. Þvörusleikir - Licks wooden spoons 5. Pottaskefill - Scrapes pots 6. Askasleikir - Licks bowls 7. Hurðaskellir - Slams doors all night 8. Skyrgámur - Devours skyr 9. Bjúgnakrækir - Steals sausages 10. Gluggagægir - Window-Peeper 11. Gáttaþefur - Steals bread with huge nose 12. Ketkrókur - Uses hook to steal meat 13. Kertasníkir - Steals children's candles

Icelandic children leave shoes in windows. Well-behaved get gifts. Naughty get rotten potatoes. Truly terrible? Grýla herself comes calling.
