Antigone

After Antigone's brothers killed each other fighting over Thebes, King Creon decreed that one of them, Polyneices, would be left unburied for the birds. Antigone buried him anyway, openly, and told Creon to his face that the laws of the gods outranked his. Creon had her sealed alive in a tomb, where she hanged herself (Sophocles, Antigone).
