The myth, as it's usually told

The Minotaur

Poseidon cursed Pasiphae, queen of Crete, to desire a bull, and she gave birth to Asterion, half man and half bull. King Minos had the architect Daedalus build the labyrinth to hide him, and fed him young Athenians sent as tribute. Theseus volunteered as one of the tribute, killed the Minotaur, and found his way out with Ariadne's thread.
