The myth behind this song
Can you hear the warning on the wind? The drowned sailor is calling your name.
Experience the Draugen through Norwegian maritime folk - virtuosic accordion and fiddle, gang vocals, driving rhythm, and gritty charismatic vocals bring to life the legendary undead sailor of Norse folklore. This is the BONUS TRACK - the hidden 13th spirit of "Gods of the Winter Realm." The drowned Norwegian fisherman who rises from frozen seas to warn of coming storms, half corpse and half boat, rowing through fog to claim those who hear his headless scream.
The Legend of Draugen:
In Norwegian coastal folklore, the Draugen is one of the sea's most terrifying omens. He is the ghost of a drowned sailor or fisherman, cursed to wander the frozen Norwegian waters for eternity. His appearance is grotesque: bloated waterlogged flesh, seaweed wrapped around his limbs, barnacles growing on his corpse, wearing the tattered yellow oilskin coat he died in.
The most disturbing aspect is that he appears as half corpse, half boat - his body fused with the wreckage that killed him. Some say he rows a headless boat. Others say he himself is headless, merged with splintered wood.
The Draugen serves as a death omen. When fog rolls in and winter wind grows cold, you might hear him screaming your name across the waves - a headless cry that rings like funeral bells. If you hear the Draugen's warning, a storm is coming, and you will not survive. You'll join his crew of the drowned dead, rowing forever through frozen Norwegian seas.
