Symphonic Metal Complete

The Plague Doctor's Journal

London, 1665. One plague doctor's year inside the Great Plague.

The history behind this album

Step into 1665 and experience the haunting journey of a plague doctor through 12 symphonic metal chronicles. This concept album blends medieval baroque instrumentation with modern Gothic metal, creating an immersive historical horror narrative told through powerful operatic vocals and cinematic orchestration.

The Story. During the height of the Great Plague, a physician dons the iconic beaked mask and becomes something neither fully healer nor human—a walking symbol of death itself. What begins as medical duty transforms into a supernatural journey as the doctor discovers forbidden knowledge, crosses boundaries between life and death, and ultimately becomes cursed with eternal existence. Each song is a journal entry chronicling the descent from physician to something far darker.

Musical Journey. This album fuses authentic medieval and baroque instruments (harpsichord, church organ, viola da gamba, lute) with full symphonic orchestration and Gothic metal power. Operatic female vocals narrate the doctor's journal with theatrical intensity, building from haunting intimacy to commanding proclamation. Influenced by Nightwish, Epica, Therion, and Haggard, each track combines historical authenticity with cinematic metal grandeur.

Historical Note. Real plague doctors were hired by municipalities during plague outbreaks to treat the poor and record deaths. They wore the iconic beaked masks filled with aromatic herbs, believing in the "miasma theory" of disease. While their medical treatments were often ineffective by modern standards, they provided what comfort they could and documented one of history's darkest periods. This album honors their memory while exploring the psychological and supernatural weight of such a role.

The Mask

The transformation begins. Donning the iconic beaked mask for the first time, a physician becomes something else—neither healer nor harbinger, but both.
