Dionysus

1 song

Play "The Vine and the Knife" on the dial

The myth, as it's usually told

Dionysus, god of wine, ecstasy and madness, returned to Thebes, the city of his birth, where his cousin King Pentheus refused to accept him as a god. In Euripides' Bacchae, Dionysus lures Pentheus into the mountains to spy on the women worshipping there, and the Maenads, his own mother among them, tear him apart.

What the song hears

He does not create the madness. He just lets in what was already waiting.
